本書譯自Practical Business Statistics 5th ed，作者安德魯?席格博士（Andrew F. Siegel）為西雅圖華盛頓大學財政與管理科學系的教授，於美國著名之大學及研究機構任教並從事研究多年，本書以外，另著書三本，尚有論文發表多篇，可謂著作等身。除了作育英才，安德魯?席格博士亦時常於商業界擔任顧問的工作，不僅學識淵博，實務經驗更是豐富。本書共分五大部分，其特點在於揭示每一部分之始，均針對該部分的主題及即將講述的章節作簡短地介紹，說明這個主題的重要性。藉由簡單扼要地介紹與完整的解釋，並加上現實生活的實例，相信在學習的過程中，對統計學能有全面性的瞭解。最大的特色則是隨著本書附有不同資料庫的光碟，使授課者能有效運用大型資料庫，講授實際範例並實際操作，而學生則可以充分利用所附之資料庫內容，進行各項的統計分析，不僅理論與實際結合，更可以加強學習效果。本書強調觀念、看法及與企業活動的整合，配合範例將統計學與現實生活結合，使內容與我們的日常生活變得更息息相關，也讓統計的學習變得更簡單愉快，也促使學生更加的善用統計學。本書內容解說清晰，同時配合生活實例與電腦應用，易教易學。本書隨書附贈光碟，包含StatPad軟體，使學生在修這門課後能很方便處理各種統計方法，使統計學起來更輕鬆。

關山警察分局利稻派出所警員吳明雄，（13)日中時分忽然闖進一隻迷途小小羊兒，問過幾位村民，大家都搖頭說不知，只好去電村長廣播協尋，誰知村長說「是我的啦」！順利幫這隻小小流浪羊兒「找到回家的路」！

警察經常幫(協)助迷途民眾找到回家的路，但這次對象居然是「小小羊兒」！關山警察分局利稻派出所值班員警吳明雄，於昨(13)日12時40分執行值班勤務時，忽然闖進一隻迷途小小羊兒，找了幾位村民詢問，但大家都搖頭說不知道小羊兒為何人所有，這下頭痛了，雖然小小羊兒東聞聞、西舔舔的模樣甚是可愛，但派出所怎麼養羊呢？

警員只好打電話給村長請他用廣播方式請村民來認領，結果村長居然向吳員道謝說「是我家的羊啦，我也正在找的啦」，村長隨後來領，並開心與警合影，圓滿結束這場「小小羊兒迷途記」！

關山警察分局表示，利稻派出所警員吳明雄應該是全國第一個「協助小小羊兒找到回家的路」的警察吧！雖然警察常常幫(協)助民眾，但是幫(協)助「小羊兒」找到回家的路，這還是頭一遭。警察不僅是民眾的「好厝邊」，也是動物的「好朋友」唷！
